Sunday before Christmas Day 2008

Today is Sunday and Pierini Fitness is closed. Come back tomorrow for another original blogflection, about something not yet known but guaranteed to be an original middle-age man reflection.

The photo is of the Christmas tree on the west side of the State Capitol in Sacrameto, California, one mile from where I live. Enjoy your Sunday before Christmas Day 2008.

Merry Christmas Ed!

I just watched your video of the 175 x 3 split off the jerks .. awesome! I'm very weak at jerks and know how difficult it is to do what you recorded .. in particular handling the negatives with that heavy a load is very impressive .. Great work!

Thanks Franklin.

I too struggle with the jerk and that is why I have been working them as a stand-alone workout. I'm still trying to perfect that I am really suppose to push myself down from the bar rather than try to push the bar up.

The negative is a great strength builder but dropping feels better.

Merry Christmas!

I'm sure you are aware of this but just in case, our renowned USA master lifting, Dan Takeuchi, is the IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) world record holder in the 80-85 age group for the snatch, clean & jerk and total in 77kg class.

An extraordinary accomplishment to say the least .. and so incredibly inspiring!

I can't thank you enough for sharing your experience in seeing him compete at age 79 and then deciding to take up Oly lifting and compete yourself.
