The next generation of Pierini Fitness

After a 20-something year absence, last week I returned to the Sacramento Annual 4th of July 5-miler.  My time was 44:09; slower than 20-something years ago but good enough for an aging middle-aged man.

Some guests joined me for their first fun run; here’s a short video capturing their experience:

It was a surreal and joyful July 4th run I’ll always remember.  It brought back wonderful yesteryear memories of running this 5-miler fun run with my son, then a high school track athlete.

And, new wonderful memories were made running it again, this time with my two little grandsons, the next generation of Pierini Fitness.

July 4th 5-mile fun run

Happy July 4th, 2019 Independence Day to all my middle-aged men brothers from different mothers. Today, Pierini Fitness salutes the American flag and shouts how proud he is to be an American.

He’s not wearing any Nike shoes or other apparel; hasn’t worn that stuff for years and probably has never bought any, although he may have once received a sweatshirt as a gift.

This month he continues preparing for the Wharf to Wharf 6-mile fun run that’ll take place the last Sunday of July.  This week, he received his race bib, tried it on and learned it fits great.

So, the running preparation continues and must be more than what has been done thus far.  It comes at the expense of having to taper some of the other fitness training he’s doing, such as squats that are part of a kettlebell complex.  There’s only so much fuel in the legs’ fuel tank for Pierini Fitness and his wheels must feel fresh to run his best.  It’s a necessary short-term business decision.  After the run, it’ll be back to normal business and his wheels will get a more regular dose of strength training.

To get more quality runs in, Pierini Fitness is running a fun run he did many times probably 20-something years ago.  It’s the 43rd Annual 4th of July 5-miler, a free running event sponsored by the Buffalo Chips Running Club, Sacramento’s largest, oldest and most friendly running club.  Look forward to an “executive briefing update on how Pierini Fitness did.

Cheer me on this morning as I try my middle-aged man best running an early morning July 4th 5-mile fun run.

An ant on the elephant

Happy July 2019 to all my middle-aged men brothers from different mothers.  Are we having fun or not, chasing our fitness, health and wellness goals?  I am and hopefully so are you.

How times flies. The year 2019 is half over in our gracefully aging journeys.  If we blink, we might miss something so blink with caution or risk missing the fullness of life.

Pierini Fitness is committed to continuing what he has been doing for over ten years.  Today’s blogflection is his 1,071st.  Some are sleepers while others may be viewed by some of you as home runs.  They all are guided by his preferred theme of middle-aged man reflections about living and dying, gracefully aging and trying to live a good and honest life.

Those who have spent some time here know that Pierini Fitness is also content-rich with middle-aged man diet, fitness and health stuff too.  Hopefully, all that appears is laced with pearls of wisdom.  I try my best.

Yet, I realize that even on the best day, Pierini Fitness, the blog, occupies a tiny sliver in a vast cyberspace like an ant on the elephant.
